For OOW candidates
Learn the bridge by doing it.
The oral prep and bridge simulator for deck officers. Your tutor explains it, the book describes it, and here you do it, on a working bridge in your browser.
No sign-up for the free lesson. Best on a laptop or desktop.
The gap
Knowing it is not the same as having done it.
Your tutor explains it
Clear, but you are still picturing a bridge you may never have stood on.
The book describes it
Every rule is there. Where your hands go, and in what order, is not.
OralsBridge lets you do it
Stand the watch, work the controls, make the calls, then explain what you did.
How every lesson works
Hear it. See it. Do it. Explain it.
Shown here with the pilot exchange: preparing the bridge, filling in the pilot card and agreeing the plan with the pilot.
Hear it
A tutor talks you through it
Every lesson is narrated, step by step, in plain words.
See it
The bridge shows you where
The control, the screen or the light lights up as it is explained.
Do it
You do it yourself
Fill in the pilot card, set the safety contour, call the pilot station.
Explain it
Then answer like the oral
The examiner-style question comes once you have done the job.

Oral prep that shows you
The question, the key points, and the bridge to see it on.
Each lesson ends with the questions examiners ask about it. Read the key points, then answer out loud.
What is covered in the master-pilot exchange?
- The ship to the pilot: the pilot card, the wheelhouse poster, how she handles, and any defects
- The pilot's plan: route, speeds, tugs, berthing, and the tide, weather and traffic he expects
- His plan checked against our passage plan, differences talked through and agreed before going on
- Who has the con, the Master still responsible, and how the officer of the watch monitors and speaks up
- The working language, the VTS and VHF channels, and how orders to the helm are given and repeated
